- Abstrak (max. 1600 huruf atau 250 kata): The declaration of independence by Kosovo from Serbia in 2008 was recognized by most European Union member states and the United States. However, several countries, such as Russia, China, and including Israel, rejected this independence due to their close ties with Serbia. Nevertheless, in 2020, Kosovo and Israel, facilitated by the United States, agreed to establish diplomatic relations and mutually recognize each other as part of an economic normalization agreement between Serbia and Kosovo. This decision faced opposition from several international parties, including Turkey, European Union,Arab League, and the people of Kosovo, particularly concerning the establishment of the Kosovo embassy in Jerusalem. This research employs an explanatory method using secondary data, such as books, journals, and official documents, to identify the reasons behind this decision. The findings indicate that Kosovo’s decision to establish diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020 was based on two national interests. First, as an effort to defend Kosovo against pressure from the United States. Second, as a strategy to expand economic markets with Israel.
