  • Abstrak (max. 1600 huruf atau 250 kata): The rejection of South Korea to join the US missile defense system in East Asia is a form of South Korea’s decision not to join in the defense system which is influenced by the internal and external scope. The aim of this study is to explain factors and background which explains South Korea’s rejection on joining the missile defense. This problem is analyzed by using decision making theory. The type of research that used by the author is explanatory, the data presented are secondary which obtained by library research and the data analysis technique used is qualitative. The results of this research indicated that the factors which led South Korea’s refusal to join the US missile defense system in East Asia was based on internal and external factors. The internal factor is refusal of South Korea society who does not approve of South Korea to join the US missile defense system because it will be able to undermine all the goals, and national interest of South Korea, such as creating peace in the Korean Peninsula and Inter-Korean reunification. The external factor is the relationship between South Korea and China.
