- Abstrak (max. 1600 huruf atau 250 kata): Taiwan is a country with the official name of the Republic of China (ROC) located in the East Asia region with a population of 23 million. But the Taiwan’s status is still status quo where Taiwan is not recognized by most countries in the world mainly because of its conflict with the People’s Republic of China. Each president of Taiwan has a different approach to nation building in shaping Taiwan’s national identity and its relationship status with China.The purpose of this research is to analyze the approach of nation building Taiwan during the reign of Ma Ying Jeou in 2008-2016. The research uses andescriptivemethod which data are taken from books, journals, websites, and valid news. The researcher uses a concept of nation bulding and constructivism.The results of this study indicate that there are two policies in the approach of nation building Taiwan during the reign of Ma Ying Jeou, namely Three No’s and New Middle Ground. Three Nos’ are the three principles of Taiwan during Ma Ying Jeou’s reign which are no unification, no independence, and no use of force with China. While the new middle ground is Taiwan’s policy to establish relations with China in the economic field to maintain the country’s economic stability.
