  • Abstrak (max. 1600 huruf atau 250 kata): The research aims to find out why the United States freed Vietnam from CAATSA sanctions. The research method used is explanatory research and is described descriptively with data sources obtained from books, thesis journals, articles, mass media, internet sources, and credible literature. In this study the authors used the concept of Coercive Diplomacy by Alexander L. George. The results of this study indicate that there is an interest in the United States in freeing Vietnam from CAATSA sanctions. That is, the United States has interests in the South China Sea and America needs Vietnam to keep China from controlling the South China Sea. Vietnam needed weapons to maintain its strength in the South China Sea and to buy weapons to Russia and due to the impact of Russia’s defeat against Ukraine during the war, Russia was unable to export weapons to Vietnam again. Until finally Vietnam switched and agreed to purchase weapons from the United States and reduce its dependence on Russian weapons. This finally made Vietnam free from CAATSA sanctions.
