- Abstrak (max. 1600 huruf atau 250 kata): Australia is one of the countries in the Indo Pacific region, in recent years the Indo Pacific region has become a region that is quite vulnerable due to the increasing influence of China’s military power and is quite a threat to regional stability, especially for Australia. To solve this problem, Australia decided to buy the diesel-powered submarines from France which are expected to offset Australia’s strength in the Indo Pacific region. After reached a contract agreement with France, in September 2021 Australia canceled the diesel submarine deal unilaterally because Australia considered that these submarines did not fulfill its country’s national interests. The purpose of this research is to find out why Australia canceled the diesel submarines contract from France. This research is a type of qualitative research using explanatory research methods, data accumulate techniques using library research where the data source is a secondary data source because it is obtained through books, journals and also the internet. In addition, this research uses decision-making theory which is used to identify existing problems to reach the decision-making stage. The results of the research found that there were 3 reasons why Australia canceling the diesel submarine agreement contract with France, firstly because Australia was worried about China’s influence and power in the Indo Pacific region, secondly, Australia considered that diesel submarines would no longer exist effectively used considering that China’s military is far more advanced, and the last, Australia joined AUKUS which is a 3-nation trilateral pact between Australia, the United States and Britain to carry out the construction ofnuclear-powered submarines.
