  • Abstrak (max. 1600 huruf atau 250 kata): In February 2009, Indonesian Government represented by Pertamina with Total E&P Indonesie and Inpex Corporation signed an extension contract of LNG Badak exports with buyers from Western Japan and will be applicable on 2011 to 2020. This decision led to disagreement from several parties in the country due to the crisis which have been suffered by the domestic industries so it can not operate properly as the result of lack of gas supply to meet their needs. There are two factors that influence the extend of the export contracts of LNG Badak to Japan which are external factors and internal factors. External factors is because the Indonesian Government indebted to the buyers of the Western Japan through Badak refinery which amounts to 90 cargoes of liquefied natural gas or the value equivalent to 19 trillion rupiah. This deficiency is an accumulation of the previous export contract in 2006 until 2009. If Badak refinery can not fulfill the shortage, the Indonesian Government should pay a compensation fee to the buyers of Western Japan. Other external factors are the traditional factors which Japan through ODA program has provided varieties of assistance to Indonesia in order to contribute peace and development of the international community, especially Indonesia. Internal factors based on Indonesia’s national interests which includes domestic security, economic welfare and welfare of the people to preserve and maintain the survival of the state. In order to achieve its national interests, Indonesia held a bilateral cooperation with Japan through oil and gas trade.
