China became the fifth country to have military installations in Djibouti, after stationing the Chinese People\u2019s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) at the naval support base in 2017. The Deployment of the PLAN in Djibouti marks a significant geostrategic shift in regional and global security dynamics. To understand the implications, this research uses a qualitative method, based on primary and secondary data, using library research analysis technique, and uses Donald E. Neuchterlein\u2019s concept of \u201cnational interest\u201d to analyze the factors driving PLAN deployment in Djibouti, as well as its impact on China\u2019s national interests, related regional and international actors. Through qualitative analysis, this study identifies that factors such as modernization of PLA, China\u2019s maritime strategy, security conditions in Africa, China\u2019s economic interests in Africa, and China\u2019s ambition to balance USA and allied hegemony in Africa are the factors underlying the PLAN\u2019s deployment in Djibouti. Therefore, this study highlights China\u2019s increased military presence in strategic regions and increased protection of maritime trade routes. Moreover, the PLAN\u2019s deployment in Djibouti also drew responses and concerns from regional and international actors, reflectiong the complexity of security dynamics in the region.
